Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities mentioned they were contacted by a individual who found a car in Hanau smeared with reddish substance

Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they stated.

Police then found multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report initial examinations indicate the substance was likely human blood.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.

An important representative stated the attack left him without words and had to be solved promptly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
